5 tips for someone living with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)

Learning tips, tricks, and hacks to living with systemic lupus erythematosus is the best way I have learned to tackle life with SLE. In today’s post we are going to cover the top 5 tips I would have wanted someone to tell me when I was first diagnosed.

Disclaimer: This is not medical advice I am only sharing my personal experience

Get educated

Education is the best gift you could give yourself. You can’t fight back until you know who your opponent is. Right off the bat if I could go back I would have looked up questions like what is lupus and root cause of lupus? Would have been my first action.

Give yourself grace

Giving yourself grace means taking care of yourself, allowing your body to rest, and not mentally beating yourself up for ANYTHING. I wish I could go back and give myself grace and kindness.

Find a support system.

There are loads of ways to connect with people experiencing the same thing you are in just a few minutes. Social media like tik tok, instagram, facebook, reddit hosting millions of people suffering with lupus that are also looking for a community of people who understand what they are going through. There are also lupus support group websites that you can join and find a community.

Learn your triggers

Everyone with lupus experiences the disease differently. Learning what triggers your flares is one of the best things I have ever done. We have free medical binder printables and flare-up trackers that can help you pinpoint what triggers affect you.

Taking inactive role in your health

Taking an active role in my health was something I was not used to. This entailed doing my own research (and loads of it), asking questions, staying on top of my lifestyle, and tracking my diseases to see what triggered flares.
